A 42-year-old flight instructor, Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, jumped to his death from a Cessna 150 aircraft over Argentina, leaving his 22-year-old student, Rosario, to safely land the plane.
Investigation Underway
The incident is under investigation by the Federal Court of Córdoba, Argentina. Authorities have not yet revealed why Bertazzo took his own life. The plane has been impounded, and the student, who already had a pilot’s license, was able to land the aircraft without incident.
Eduardo Álvarez, director of the Flying Parrot Córdoba flying school where Bertazzo worked, stated that they only recently learned that the flight instructor had been under psychiatric care. Álvarez described the student as “very clear, decisive, mature, and professional” and praised her for maintaining a high level of training and professionalism during the ordeal.
Bertazzo had worked at Flying Parrot Córdoba for a decade and was a licensed commercial pilot. He had also worked in neighboring Chile. The incident occurred during a training flight over a rural area called Toledo.
