The Harrison County Popcorn Festival is back this weekend, bringing two days of food, entertainment, and a celebration of the crop that put the community on the map. Held in downtown Corydon, the festival is in its fifth year since being revived and continues to grow, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
A Celebration of Local Farmers
For local farmers, the festival is about more than just a snack — it’s a celebration of a major part of Harrison County’s agricultural identity. Brian Churchill with Preferred Popcorn said, ‘I’ve planted popcorn for 40-something years, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I just love it.’ Harrison County is considered a popcorn-producing powerhouse, with farmers in the region growing about 10% of the nation’s popcorn supply.
The festival will feature activities for the entire family, including a car show with more than 200 vehicles, food vendors, live music, a popcorn-eating contest, and a popcorn blower. Children can also enjoy a popcorn-themed attraction — a popcorn swimming pool. Popcorn grown in Harrison County is shipped around the world and sold in more than 50 countries. Venezuela recently became the latest country to receive popcorn produced by local farmers.
