Little Falls – The newly opened Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum welcomed the community on Sunday for its inaugural Court of Honor ceremony. Five retired Minnesota National Guard members were formally inducted, recognizing decades of exemplary service and sacrifice.
Inductees and Their Roots
Retired Colonel Joseph Seaquist, a longtime resident of Kimball, led the ceremony. He joins Colonel Gary Carlberg of White Bear Lake, Sergeant Major James Bakkila of Perham, Master Sergeant Gregory Crow of Elk River, and Sergeant First Class James Fink of Minneota. Each honoree has a distinguished record of leadership within the Guard, reflecting the core values of duty, honor, and country.
Significance of the Court of Honor
The Court of Honor, established 93 years ago, has inducted more than 550 soldiers and civilian employees of the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs. Selections are based on exemplary service, outstanding professionalism, and, when applicable, heroism in the face of danger. The ceremony underscores the Guard’s enduring legacy and its role in safeguarding Minnesota’s communities.
Remarks from Military Leadership
Retired Army Major General Mike Wickman addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of remembering the contributions of past Guard members. “Through the Court of Honor, we proudly recognize this year’s inductees and carry forward their stories of leadership and service to guide and inspire future generations,” he said.
Community Impact
The event highlighted the strong ties between the Guard and the citizens of central Minnesota. Families, local officials, and veterans’ organizations attended, reinforcing the shared commitment to honoring those who have protected the state and nation. The museum’s grounds, where the ceremony took place at 1:00 p.m., provided a fitting backdrop for the tribute.
Looking Ahead
With the museum now open, the Court of Honor will continue to celebrate Guard members whose dedication sets a standard for future service members. The ceremony not only honored the five inductees but also reminded the public of the Guard’s vital role in emergency response, community assistance, and national defense.
