Father’s Day is about more than gifts and cookouts—it’s about spending meaningful time together and celebrating the people who help shape our lives. At the Y, family time has always been at the heart of what we do. From Family Swim and family fitness events to youth sports, camp experiences, and everyday moments spent together, the Y creates opportunities for families to connect, laugh, grow, and build lasting memories side by side.
The Y also has a unique connection to the history of Father’s Day itself. In 1910, the Spokane YMCA hosted one of the first-known Father’s Day celebrations after Sonora Smart Dodd sought to honor her father, a Civil War veteran and single dad who raised six children on his own. What began as a heartfelt tribute at the Y eventually grew into the national holiday celebrated across the country today.
More than a century later, the Y continues to be a place where dads, grandfathers, caregivers, and families can come together to strengthen their bonds and create traditions that last a lifetime. This Father’s Day, we celebrate all the father figures and family moments that help make our communities stronger.
The Fry Family Y has a wide variety of offerings available that will keep you and your family happy and healthy all while having fun. Learn more and register at fryfamilyymca.org, via phone at (630) 904-9595, or stop by our front desk!
