Lt. Gov. Pam Evette has released a list of nine potential running mates for the lieutenant governor position, should she win the GOP gubernatorial nomination in the upcoming runoff. The list includes Rep. Jordan Pace, who has declined to endorse Evette or her opponent, Attorney General Alan Wilson, in the runoff.
Evette’s Short List
Evette’s list includes Rep. Case Brittain of Myrtle Beach, Rep. Patrick Haddon of Greenville County, former Rep. Adam Morgan, Rep. Jordan Pace, House Speaker Pro Tempore Tommy Pope of York County, Joe Semsar, a former Trump-administration undersecretary of commerce, Tyler Servant, who chairs the Horry County Council’s administration committee, Hood Temple, a Florence attorney, and Rep. James Teeple of Johns Island.
Evette stated that any of the nine individuals on the list would make an outstanding lieutenant governor. The list was released after early voting had closed, just days before the runoff election.
Pace’s Statement
Rep. Jordan Pace, who was included on Evette’s short list, released a statement confirming that he would not endorse either Evette or Wilson in the runoff. Pace had previously endorsed Congressman Ralph Norman for Governor, but Norman did not advance to the runoff.
Pace’s statement emphasized the success and growing influence of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus, which he chairs. He noted that both candidates for Governor in the runoff are speaking positively about Freedom Caucus priorities, and that the current and past chairmen of the caucus are under serious consideration for Lieutenant Governor.
Local Connection
Two individuals from Horry County are included on Evette’s short list: Tyler Servant, who chairs the Horry County Council’s administration committee, and Rep. Case Brittain of Myrtle Beach. Servant has publicly endorsed Evette, while Brittain has accepted consideration favorably but has not yet endorsed Evette’s campaign.
