Eugene to Celebrate Reopening of Renovated University Park on Saturday

The City of Eugene is set to host a community celebration on Saturday, Aug. 29, to mark the reopening of University Park after a year‑long renovation. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the 2.81‑acre park located at 24th Avenue and University Street.

Renovation details and funding

The park’s upgrades began in September 2025 and were financed by the parks and recreation bond that voters approved in 2018. Improvements include new playground equipment, upgraded water‑play features, refreshed landscaping, and expanded open‑space areas designed for families and neighborhood gatherings.

What to expect at the celebration

According to a city news release, the celebration will feature a variety of activities for all ages. Food trucks will offer a range of meals and snacks, while a dedicated water‑play zone provides a safe, splash‑friendly environment for children. Attendees can enjoy lawn games such as cornhole and giant Jenga, indulge in ice cream, and browse vendor booths showcasing local businesses.

Live music will be provided by local musicians, and a tie‑dye station will give participants a chance to create colorful souvenirs. The event is sponsored by Eugene Parks and Open Space in partnership with the South University Neighborhood Association.

Why the park matters to the community

University Park has long served as a gathering place for families, students, and neighborhood groups in South Eugene. The recent renovations aim to enhance safety, accessibility, and recreational opportunities, reinforcing the city’s commitment to quality public spaces that support strong, faith‑centered families.

City officials encourage residents to attend, meet their neighbors, and enjoy the newly improved amenities. The celebration underscores the city’s ongoing investment in parks and open spaces, a cornerstone of vibrant community life.

Practical information

The celebration is free and open to the public. Parking is available on nearby streets, and the park is fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges. For additional details, visit the City of Eugene’s official website or follow the city’s social‑media channels.
