Two individuals climbed to the top of the Empire State Building’s antenna in New York City and unfurled a banner reading “when the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace” at midday Wednesday. The climbers, dressed in black and wearing masks, balanced on a narrow ledge and appeared to kiss atop the antenna before descending.
Arrest and Reaction
After efficiently climbing down the latticework of metal to a wider ledge, the pair took selfies and were subsequently arrested by police. Onlookers watched from the sidewalks near the Art Deco office tower, with one tourist describing the scene as “like being in the movies”. The building’s management stated that the episode was unauthorized and posed no danger to anyone in the building.
