Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has announced an emergency public fish salvage at the Daigre Reservoir on Wahatoya State Wildlife Area in Huerfano County. The decision was made due to a combination of extreme drought and municipal water needs, which have caused the reservoir to be drawn from to supply water to Walsenburg and La Veta.

CPW says it also plans to conduct fish salvage operations where they can, and relocate fish to other public waters if they are able. The fish recovered are expected to be restocked into the Martin Reservoir and Horseshoe Lake at Lathrop State Park.
More information on fishing laws and licenses is available on CPW’s website.
