Electra, a hybrid-electric aircraft startup, has signed a production agreement with France’s Safran Helicopter Engines for turbogenerators. The deal includes an initial order for 250 TG600 turbogenerators, which will power Electra’s nine-passenger Ultra Short aircraft, the EL9.
Advancing Certification Efforts
The agreement is a major milestone for Electra, which is working to advance certification efforts for the EL9. The company expects the EL9 to make its first flight in late 2027 or early 2028 and enter service in 2030.
Electra’s CEO, Marc Allen, said the turbogenerator deal was a significant step forward for the company. ‘We have 2,200 aircraft in the backlog and 63 operating customers waiting for delivery,’ Allen said.
The partnership between Electra and Safran expands a relationship first announced in 2023 and supports development and certification efforts for the EL9 aircraft.
