Maximilian Claahsen, an Illinois boy living with diplegic cerebral palsy, has been granted a “Special Dream” by the Sunshine Foundation. The foundation gifted him a set of Yonbo Robots, which have quickly become his companions.
The Sunshine Foundation
The Sunshine Foundation is a nonprofit organization that focuses on children with lifelong severe chronic illnesses and conditions from income-limited families. The organization relies on donations from individuals, civic groups, and corporations to fund its programs.
Maximilian expressed his excitement over the new additions to his home, sharing how the interactive toys have quickly become his friends. “I love my robots so much! I feel like I have new friends,” Maximilian said. “Miko is the red one and he dances to music. Yonbo, the white one follows. They answer my questions, tell me stories, let me create my own stories, and my robot dog companion even plays ball. Thank you so much for helping my dream come true. I want to be an engineer when I grow up!”
His mother echoed his joy, noting the positive impact the gift has had on her son. “Maximilian lights up with joy, with his robots!” she said.
Maximilian’s dream was made possible through funding from Publix Supermarkets Charities and the Sunshine Foundation’s All-Volunteer Delaware County Pennsylvania Chapter.
The Sunshine Foundation has answered the dreams of more than 44,000 children across the United States. Those interested in supporting the organization can find more information or make a donation by visiting www.sunshinefoundation.org.
