El Reno restores water service after 3‑million‑gallon leak; volunteers distribute thousands of bottles

El Reno officials confirmed that a fire‑suppression line on private property caused a leak that released roughly three million gallons of water on Thursday morning. The leak, located on West Jensen Road, was quickly isolated and the line has now been replaced, but water pressure remains low.

City response and conservation measures

Interim city manager Ken Brown said the city is prohibiting outside watering for the next 48 hours and urging residents and businesses to use water conservatively. “We’re asking for reasonable water use in homes, businesses—wherever,” Brown explained. Officials expect pressure to return to normal by Friday afternoon.

Community volunteers step in

Discovery Church, led by Pastor Benjamin Gonzalez, partnered with the Ross Seed Company and a local feed store to set up a pop‑up distribution point at The Filling Station. Within minutes of the city’s call for help, volunteers were unloading and handing out water and sports drinks.

“We just wanted to be a blessing to the city of El Reno. We saw a need in the community,” Gonzalez said. The effort yielded close to 17,000 bottles of water and Gatorade, along with other supplies, for residents awaiting restored service.

Schools and city offices reopen

El Reno Public Schools announced that classes will resume on Friday after a two‑day closure. The Cleveland County Courthouse and other city offices are also set to reopen the same day.

City officials will continue monitoring water levels and will provide updates as the system stabilizes.
