A strong storm hit an El Reno neighborhood overnight, destroying homes and causing significant damage. The storm, which may have been a small tornado, knocked down power lines and uprooted trees throughout central Oklahoma, with the most impacted area being El Reno.
Damage Assessment
Sky 5 and KOCO 5 crews on the ground saw a lot of damage in an El Reno neighborhood northwest of Reformatory Road and Route 66. A homeowner told KOCO 5 that her roof completely collapsed and that she’s going to have to rebuild. El Reno officials have asked people to avoid several impacted areas while emergency personnel, utility crews, and city staff access damage and do repairs.
The National Weather Service will survey the area to determine if a tornado occurred. The KOCO 5 First Alert Weather Team has been certified by WeatheRate as providing the Most Accurate Forecast in Oklahoma City for 14 consecutive years.
