Vonnie Hatfield has called the east Las Vegas area home for more than three decades. She moved into her mobile home in 1994, paying roughly $300 a month in rent – a rate she describes as “very, very affordable.”
Today, Hatfield says her rent has nearly tripled to close to $1,000 a month. For a fixed‑income senior, any further increase could make staying in her longtime residence impossible. “It’s getting very, very difficult to live,” she told Channel 13.
Rising costs beyond rent
Hatfield notes that rent is only one piece of the financial puzzle. Gas, groceries and other everyday expenses have risen sharply, squeezing her monthly budget. She estimates that affordable rent for seniors like herself would be in the $500‑$600 range.
Management explains increases
The mobile home park’s management, which took over in 2020, says the rent hikes are tied to improvements being made at the community. Similar concerns have been voiced by seniors at Maycliff Estates, another east‑valley mobile home park owned by Havenpark Communities.
Resources for seniors
Seniors who have legal questions or feel a rent increase is unlawful can contact the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada for guidance on their rights and available assistance.
