Dream rout Tempo 111-92 in dominant road performance at Coca-Cola Coliseum

The Atlanta Dream left no doubt in Toronto on Friday night, dismantling the home-standing Tempo 111-92 at Coca-Cola Coliseum in a performance that was as efficient as it was commanding. Atlanta controlled the game from multiple angles, and the final margin of 19 points reflected a visiting squad that was simply operating at a higher level throughout the evening.

Naz Hillmon led all scorers with 24 points for the Dream, providing the interior presence that Toronto struggled to contain. But the story of Atlanta’s offensive night may have been the extraordinary playmaking of Jordin Canada, who finished with a remarkable 13 assists — a figure that underscored just how fluid and connected the Dream’s offense was from start to finish. Angel Reese added muscle on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds to anchor Atlanta’s interior game on both ends of the floor.

The Dream’s team statistics paint a picture of near-clinical efficiency. Atlanta converted 39 of 71 field goal attempts for a 55 percent shooting clip, a number that made life extremely difficult for the Tempo defense all night. The Dream also knocked down 9 of 28 attempts from beyond the arc and were especially sharp at the free-throw line, converting 24 of 28 attempts at an 86 percent rate. Atlanta also generated 11 offensive rebounds, giving the Dream multiple second-chance opportunities that Toronto simply could not afford to surrender. The Dream’s 28 assists on the night reflected a team sharing the ball at an elite level, and their 11 steals created additional havoc for the Tempo offense.

For Toronto, Marina Mabrey was the lone bright spot in what was otherwise a frustrating evening. The guard paced the Tempo with 26 points, doing her best to keep the home side competitive as Atlanta continued to extend its advantage. Julie Allemand was active in the supporting role, finishing with both a team-high 6 assists and a team-high 5 rebounds, showing her versatility even in a losing effort.

Despite Mabrey’s individual output, Toronto was unable to generate the consistent offensive rhythm needed to threaten the Dream’s lead. Atlanta’s 11 steals were a particularly telling indicator of how much pressure the Dream applied defensively, forcing turnovers that repeatedly short-circuited any momentum the Tempo attempted to build. With Atlanta committing just 10 total turnovers of their own, the ball-security disparity further tilted the contest in the visitors’ favor.

The Dream’s ability to shoot 55 percent from the field while also dominating the glass — collecting 28 total rebounds, including those 11 on the offensive end — gave Atlanta a two-pronged advantage that the Tempo simply had no answer for over 40 minutes. Canada’s 13-assist performance was the connective tissue holding it all together, as Atlanta moved the ball with purpose and found open looks consistently throughout the contest.

The convincing road victory is a significant result for the Dream, who demonstrated they can perform at a high level away from home against a Tempo squad playing in front of their own fans at Coca-Cola Coliseum. For Toronto, the 19-point defeat raises questions about their ability to defend at a high level and protect the basketball, areas that will need immediate attention as the season continues.
