A $50 million settlement from The Walt Disney Company may benefit eligible YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream subscribers. The lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleged that Disney’s control over popular channels and programming gave the company significant influence over the live TV streaming market.
What Did the Lawsuit Allege?
The lawsuit claimed that Disney’s agreements with streamers to carry their channels, including ESPN, limited competitors’ ability to offer lower-cost alternatives and contributed to higher prices for consumers. Disney has denied these allegations.
To claim a share of the settlement, eligible consumers must have paid for YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026. The deadline to submit a claim is September 8, 2026. Claims can be submitted online or by mail to Biddle v. Disney, Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 4720, Portland, OR 97208-4720.
How Much Will You Get from the Disney Settlement?
The amount each claimant will receive from the settlement has yet to be determined. Payments would be distributed after a final approval hearing, scheduled for January 14, 2027.
