The Des Moines Fire Department welcomed a new ladder truck to its station on Southeast 6th Street, purchased for more than $1.7 million. The truck, known as Truck 6, is one of six ladder trucks in the city’s fleet.
New Truck to Handle Over 30,000 Calls
The three people assigned to the truck will handle over 30,000 calls for service in the next ten years, including over 600 structured fires, according to fire Chief Jonathan Lund. This new truck replaces a vehicle that had been in service since 2018, which responded to more than 20,000 calls during its eight years of use.
