A Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputy was injured Sunday when a confrontation with a landlord escalated into a physical assault. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Ridge Road, near the Guadalupe River, after deputies responded to a report that the landlord had broken into a tenant’s home while the tenant was away.
What happened
When deputies arrived, they saw the landlord, identified as 64‑year‑old James Waugh, walking away from the residence. According to the GCSO, Waugh then re‑entered the home and attempted to flee. As a deputy moved to take Waugh into custody, a 55‑year‑old woman from New Braunfels, identified as Toya Robinson, intervened and assaulted the officer.
During the struggle, Waugh tried to seize the deputy’s Taser but was unsuccessful. Robinson then used the cord attached to the deputy’s radio to choke him, according to the department’s release.
