Denver’s Baker neighborhood is set to host its first PorchFest, a unique music festival where local bands will perform on neighborhood porches. Scheduled for October 3, this event aims to celebrate the area’s rich musical heritage and community spirit.
Community-Driven Initiative
Bradley Schwartz, inspired by similar events in other cities, is leading the effort to bring PorchFest to Denver. Schwartz, who recently participated in the Virginia Highland District PorchFest in Atlanta, saw an opportunity to replicate the event in Baker, a neighborhood known for its vibrant music scene.
Organizers have chosen Dailey Park as the festival’s headquarters, where attendees can enjoy food and retail vendors. The event will also feature performances on 15 to 20 porches throughout the neighborhood, with efforts underway to close surrounding blocks to traffic for a more immersive experience.
Supporting Local Artists
Tickets for PorchFest are priced at $20, which will help cover expenses and ensure fair compensation for the musicians. The festival is entirely volunteer-driven, with Schwartz and his team organizing the event out of a passion for local music and community engagement.
Proceeds from the event will not only support the musicians but also contribute to East 7th Arts, a nonprofit providing art and music therapy for children with autism. Schwartz hopes to establish a fund to support future iterations of PorchFest, ensuring it becomes an annual tradition in Baker.
A Celebration of Local Culture
In addition to the porch performances, Schwartz envisions separately ticketed events at venues along Broadway to extend the festivities. The lineup for PorchFest will be announced in September, promising a diverse array of local talent.
PorchFest is more than just a music festival; it’s a celebration of community, family, and the arts. By bringing music to the heart of the neighborhood, the event highlights the importance of local culture and the power of volunteer-driven initiatives.
