Dallas Woman Killed in Crossfire

A woman was shot and killed in the 9800 block of Walnut Street in Dallas on Tuesday night. Neighbors say she was getting home from work when she was caught in the crossfire.

Nia Hasan said her neighborhood was peaceful and quiet when she moved in about 10 years ago. But she said recently, things have changed at the Richland Trace Condominiums on Walnut Street.

“Two days in a row and they’re shooting in the daytime,” Hasan said. “Yesterday was at 11 am. The day before that it was, the sun was still out. It was like after work, after school hours, five or six.”

The most recent shooting happened around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, hitting the young woman who was just getting home from work.

“I heard the shooting,” Hasan said. “It was intense because we were kind of like right here in the circle, and apparently, the young lady was walking by and got hit by a load of the bullets. Sad. Very sad and emotional.”

Hasan didn’t know the woman by name, but said she was a friendly neighbor.

“I see her every day in her work uniform, walking to work, coming home,” Hasan said. “She waves, speaks to everybody. She ain’t bothering nobody. Just one of those people you want as a neighbor.”

Other neighbors didn’t want to talk on camera, but shared that they are also worried about the shootings and safety in the area.

Hasan said it scares her and her children.

“My kids don’t want to go outside,” Hasan said. “They’re scared. I don’t feel safe. Because nothing’s directed at me, but bullets have no names.”

Hasan had this message for those doing the shooting.

“Just put the guns down,” Hasan said. “Let’s figure it out another way. Like, it’s too much loss going on. It’s too many senseless people dying. We got to put all the weapons down and figure out another way.”

Dallas police would not provide any update on their ongoing investigation.

The condominium association said it had no comment on the shooting.
