Dallas Animal Services Launches First Fridays Adoption Events

Dallas Animal Services is set to launch a new monthly event series called First Fridays, beginning on June 5. This initiative aims to connect shelter pets with potential adopters while welcoming the broader community to the facility. The inaugural event will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will also mark the start of the Paws and Play Summer Kickoff Weekend, which runs from June 5 to 7.

Community Engagement and Support

The First Fridays series is supported by the Louis B. and Mary Ratliff Animal Welfare Fund at The Dallas Foundation through a grant to Friends of Dallas Animal Services. The goal is to transform the shelter environment into a welcoming community space, allowing residents to visit after work to meet animals available for adoption.

Wendy Reiner, co-founder of Friends of Dallas Animal Services, emphasized the importance of these events in helping pets find new homes. “First Fridays allows the community to visit the shelter after work hours, spend time with our animals, and hopefully find their new best friend,” she said.

Event Details

The June 5 kickoff will feature free hot dogs while supplies last, live music by Nova Pangea, complimentary treats, interactive activities, and extended hours for visitors to meet and adopt shelter pets. Dallas Animal Services encourages residents to participate through adoption, fostering, or volunteering. Visitors can meet dogs and cats ready for homes, learn how to provide temporary care for shelter animals, or find out how to support shelter operations through volunteer work.

The event is free to attend and will be held at Dallas Animal Services, located at 1811 N. Westmoreland Rd.
