Stephen Biebelhausen, a dad, set a world record by running a 4:17 mile with his daughter, Blake, in a stroller. He had done only one stroller-specific speed workout before the Guardian Mile, a Cleveland road mile with a stroller division.
The Record-Breaking Run
Biebelhausen went into the Guardian Mile hoping to break 4:44, but he ended up having the race of his life with his daughter. He ran the first 400 meters in 65 seconds and reached the halfway point in 2:12. The previous Guinness World Record was 4:26:29, set by Silas Frantz while pushing his son Otto through Arroyo Grande, California, in June 2025.
Biebelhausen’s daughter, Blake, seemed to enjoy the experience, pumping her legs and taking in the sights and sounds of the race. The dad said safety was a top priority, and he made sure Blake was securely strapped into the stroller throughout the run.
Safety Considerations
Alexandra Dunham, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, emphasized the importance of using a stroller or seat specifically designed for running when pushing a child. She also noted that the general milestone for running with a baby is when they can hold their head up completely on their own without wobbling, typically around 5 months of age.
