CPSC recalls 195,000 JKMAX heated blankets and pads over burn risks

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an urgent safety alert this week for JKMAX brand heated blankets and pads sold online through Amazon. The agency says about 195,000 units – available in blue, red, brown and gray – were sold between September 2022 and July 2026 and are now being recalled because internal wire heating elements can overheat, creating severe fire and burn hazards.

What the recall covers

Both single‑pack and two‑pack configurations are affected, across multiple sizes. Consumers can verify whether they own a recalled item by checking the model number printed on the back of the detachable white temperature‑control remote and on the white fabric label attached to the product. The specific model numbers listed in the recall notice are:

  • JKMAX-002
  • JKMAX-7284B
  • JKMAX-6284
  • JKMAX-10090B
  • JKMAX-8490B
  • JKMAX-6284B

Reported incidents and injuries

According to the CPSC, 577 reports have been logged of the blankets or pads smoking, melting, or igniting. Those incidents have resulted in roughly 53 reported injuries, ranging from minor burns to more serious skin damage. The agency emphasizes that the overheating risk can occur even when the product is used as directed.

How to protect yourself

Health and safety officials are urging anyone who owns a JKMAX heated blanket or pad to stop using the product immediately. The manufacturer has pledged to provide full refunds to affected buyers. Consumers who need assistance or wish to request a refund can call the JKMAX toll‑free line at 800‑917‑5732, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, or email [email protected].

Why the recall matters

Product recalls of this scale highlight the importance of vigilant consumer‑product safety oversight. The CPSC’s swift action helps prevent further injuries and underscores the agency’s role in protecting families from hazardous household items. Homeowners are encouraged to regularly inspect electrical heating devices for signs of wear, frayed cords, or unusual odors, and to follow manufacturer instructions closely.

What to do next

If you discover that you own one of the listed JKMAX models, discontinue use right away and contact the company for a refund. Keep the original packaging and receipts handy, as they may be required during the refund process. For additional safety tips and updates on product recalls, visit the CPSC website or sign up for their email alerts.
