A couple from The Villages, George and Diana Franco, have received a $10,000 refund from a third-party travel website after a two-year battle. The couple had purchased 14 tickets to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic but only received three tickets before their trip.
Refund After Two Years
The Francos were excited to share the news of their big refund, $9,987 wired to one of their bank accounts. They quickly transferred the money out of the account and closed it, no longer trusting the people they were dealing with.
The couple contacted WESH 2 Investigates to help with their ordeal, which started in 2024 when they used the third-party online travel website to purchase the tickets. With weeks to go before their trip, they ended up shelling out thousands of dollars more to keep their plans on track.
A spokesperson for the new company that took over the travel website provided a statement, saying they chose to issue the refund to resolve the complaint and avoid ongoing issues affecting the company’s reputation.
The Better Business Bureau of Central Florida advises consumers to check company reviews and complaints before paying for travel, and to purchase with credit cards that come with fraud protection.
