Conroe Independent School District (CISD) has announced that its students outperformed state averages in all categories of the 2026 STAAR tests. The highest passage rate for CISD was in the Biology end-of-course exam at 95%, compared to the state’s 93%. The lowest passage rate for CISD was in seventh-grade math at 51%, still higher than the state’s 48%.
Test Score Trends
While CISD outperformed the state across all reported grade levels in math, reading, and social studies, the district recorded lower internal scores in 2026 compared to 2025. Math test scores for third through seventh grade were lower compared to the results in 2025, with third-grade math having the largest percentage difference, declining from 80% in 2025 to 75% in 2026.
In reading, CISD saw test scores decrease in third grade, fourth grade, and sixth grade. Fifth grade matched its score compared to last year, and seventh and eighth grades received higher scores. Eighth-grade students scored 67% in social studies this year, outperforming the state and last year’s scores, which were 57% and 65%, respectively.
According to Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath, the STAAR testing represents the hard work educators have done to support students and the recently passed Texas House Bill 1481, which prohibited the use of cell phones on campus. CISD has reported a change in student behavior during the first year of the newly implemented policy.
