Sarah Shahi, an actress known for her role in the hit HBO drama ‘The Sopranos’, recently shared details about her on-screen kiss with the late James Gandolfini. In an interview on the ‘Bossticks’ podcast, Shahi described the kiss as ‘one of the best’ she’s ever had.
On-Screen Chemistry
Shahi played the role of Sonya Aragon, a stripper and young college student who was the mistress of Christopher Moltisanti, played by Michael Imperioli. She appeared in season 6 of the show in 2007. Gandolfini, who played the lead role of Tony Soprano, was a method actor who wanted to make the scene as realistic as possible. Shahi recalled that Gandolfini had asked for props, including dehydrated mushrooms with pepper or spice, to add to the scene’s authenticity.
The scene involved Shahi and Gandolfini taking the mushrooms and then kissing. Shahi said that when the director called ‘cut’, they were still kissing. The scene had to be filmed three or four times, and each time, they were still kissing when the director stopped the cameras.
