Connecticut voters will head to the polls on Tuesday for the state’s 2026 primary elections. Polls across Connecticut will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. If you are already in line when the polls close at 8 p.m., you will still be allowed to vote.

Key Races

Gov. Ned Lamont, who is seeking a third term, faces Rep. Josh Elliott for the Democratic nomination for governor. The winner will face Republican Sen. Ryan Fazio in November. Another closely watched contest is in the state’s Democratic 1st Congressional District, where Rep. John Larson faces his first primary challenge since he was first elected to Congress in 1998.

Voters will also decide contested nominations for the state legislature. All 36 Connecticut Senate seats and all 151 state House seats are up for election this year. In Connecticut, voters must be enrolled in the political party of the primary they want to vote in. Democrats may not vote in the Republican primary or vice versa. Independent or unaffiliated voters may not participate in either primary.

Voters can check if they are registered to vote using the tool on the Secretary of State’s website. Voters can also find their polling location through the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Voter Registration Lookup and Polling Place Locator. The Secretary of State also provides town-by-town sample ballots. Any eligible, active Connecticut voter can vote by absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot for Tuesday’s primary is Monday, Aug. 10.
