A half-mile stretch of South Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs will be closed from Friday evening to Monday noon for utility work and paving. The closure will be between Astrozon Boulevard and Hancock Expressway.
Project Details
The overall improvements project aims to upgrade the boulevard from Fountain Boulevard to Jet Wing Drive, just north of Milton E. Proby Parkway. The project, which began in 2023, is expected to cost over $100 million and will relocate existing utility lines, install new ones, improve intersections, and repave the boulevard.
Businesses and a shopping center along the closed segment will remain accessible. The city has been working to minimize the impact of the construction by doing the work in smaller segments with frequent closures, rather than larger segments with longer closures.
