Cocoa Beach has added new signs to enforce e-bike speed limits on sidewalks. The signs, which were installed on Minutemen Causeway, remind e-bikers to slow down to 15 miles per hour.

Concerns Over Speeding E-Bikers

According to Cocoa Beach Mayor Michael Blake, the city has received numerous complaints about e-bikers traveling too fast on sidewalks. The ordinance also requires e-bikers to slow down to 5 mph when passing pedestrians on sidewalks.

Local biker Henry Naber, who rides on Minutemen Causeway almost daily, supports the new signs. “I think they’re good,” he said. “I think the kids need to learn to live within the speed limit.” Naber avoids biking during early mornings and afternoons when children are traveling to and from school.

City officials aim to promote awareness by initially issuing warnings to violators, with the ultimate goal of ensuring everyone can safely enjoy the sidewalks. The 15 mph speed limit applies only to sidewalks, and e-bikers can use roadways as long as they follow traffic laws.
