The College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) is underway in Casper, Wyoming, with the final days of competition taking place this week. For college athletes, the CNFR is the pinnacle of years of hard work and dedication to the sport of rodeo.
Community Support
According to Jim Dewey Brown, Commissioner of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, community support is a crucial aspect of the CNFR. "The community support is amazing," Brown said. "These kids, they don’t say ‘We’re going to CNFR.’ They say, ‘We’re going to Casper. We made it to Casper.’ Because that’s the home of CNFR."
Brown, a former college rodeo athlete and coach, emphasized the importance of the event, which celebrates not only the athletes but also the way of life that comes with the sport of rodeo. The CNFR features a range of events, including Bulls, Broncs, and Breakaway competition, Slack Rounds, and evening performances.
Upcoming Events
This week, the CNFR will host its third evening performance on Thursday, followed by the fourth evening performance on Friday. The Championship Round will take place on Saturday, with the best athletes competing for the top prizes. Thursday night is also designated as ‘Ribbon Night at the Rodeo,’ raising money and awareness for cancer research.
Tickets for the remaining events are available for purchase on The Ford Wyoming Center website. Brown encouraged fans to attend, saying, "Get your tickets. It’s an amazing event."
