The Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities recently held a car wash fundraiser to support the Family Nest Falcons, a basketball team for individuals with developmental disabilities. The event took place on a sunny Saturday morning, providing the perfect setting for a community gathering.
Community Support and Team Spirit
Dan Ottke, representing the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities, expressed pride in the event’s success. “This has been one of the most awesome events that we’ve had for the past couple years,” Ottke said. The fundraiser, now in its second year, aims to raise money for uniforms and supplies for the team.
Coach Dave Purlsey highlighted the importance of the event, noting that last year they raised $1,651.51. He emphasized that the team’s success isn’t just measured in financial terms or game scores but in the camaraderie and determination of the players. “They do not know how to quit,” Purlsey said. “They joke around with each other, but they love each other.”
Building a Supportive Environment
The fundraiser, held in the Eastgate Mall parking lot, drew a long line of cars, indicating strong community support. Jake Jackson, one of the players, expressed his enthusiasm for both the event and playing basketball. “It is great, and I love it,” Jackson said.
Ottke emphasized the broader impact of such events, stating that they provide a safe space for participants to engage in sports and build friendships across the Greater Cincinnati region. “Clermont County has been so supportive of our mission and vision,” Ottke noted. “It’s just been awesome to see the energy for it.”
This event underscores the importance of community initiatives that support individuals with developmental disabilities, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.
