A Cincinnati foster kitten named Gelato has stolen the internet’s heart with his unique way of getting around. Cincinnati Animal CARE posted a photo of Gelato, who can now walk thanks to a custom wheelchair made by the shelter’s lead veterinary technician, Mallory Smith.
When Gelato arrived at the shelter, he was unable to stand or walk on his own and was too small for any available wheelchairs. Smith used cardboard, rulers, Hot Wheels, and tape to create a custom wheelchair for Gelato. The device is already making a difference, with Gelato getting stronger every day and starting to stand for short moments on his own.
Gelato remains in foster care with Smith as he continues to recover. The story highlights the importance of creativity, heart, and perseverance in helping those in need, including animals like Gelato.
