In a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Kansas City Chiefs announced a partnership with Kansas City‑based clothing label Pancho’s Blanket. The collaboration will produce a limited‑edition line of team‑themed apparel that is hand‑woven on century‑old foot‑pedal looms, preserving traditional Mexican craftsmanship.
How the partnership began
Jonathan Garvey, a Kansas City resident, former Marine, and co‑owner of Pancho’s Blanket, said the idea started with an unexpected Instagram message from the Chiefs’ head of marketing. “They reached out out of nowhere and said they liked our brand,” Garvey recalled. His brother, Joseph Garvey, who lives in Tlaxcala, Mexico, was initially skeptical, fearing a scam. The authenticity was confirmed when the email came from a Chiefs.com address.
Hand‑crafted production
Both brothers worked directly with artisans who still use traditional weaving techniques. Every garment is produced on foot‑pedal looms that have been passed down through generations. “When I say handmade, I mean our hands are the ones who are involved making every single detail,” Jonathan explained. The brothers even cut and buttoned the pieces themselves.
Charitable mission
Pancho’s Blanket was founded in 2022 with a mission of “Keeping Others Warm.” A portion of each sale supports Feed A Family, a nonprofit the Garvey brothers created during the COVID‑19 pandemic in Tlaxcala. The program partners with local churches to deliver weekly nutritious meals to families in need. “It’s not about the clout. It’s about the kingdom,” Jonathan said.
Release details
The collection, originally slated for early Hispanic Heritage Month, will debut on Sunday during the Chiefs‑Chargers game at Arrowhead Stadium. Fans can purchase the items at the Chiefs Pro Shop, at Pancho’s Blanket’s storefront in The Bauer downtown Kansas City, and online via the Pancho’s Blanket and Chiefs websites, as well as through Fanatics.
The Garvey brothers will be present at the Pro Shop before kickoff to meet fans and share the story behind each piece. Joseph, who has never visited Arrowhead before, expressed his excitement: “Yes, sir. And the Chiefs are going to win. That’s all I’ve got to say; they’re gonna win.”
Community impact
Beyond the apparel, the partnership highlights the NFL’s local merchandise collaboration initiative, which aims to diversify team product assortments with offerings that reflect the cultural fabric of their markets. By showcasing Mexican heritage and supporting a faith‑based charitable program, the Chiefs and Pancho’s Blanket hope to strengthen community ties and provide tangible help to families both in Kansas City and Mexico.
