Foreman, Ark. – In a decisive Conference 3‑2A showdown, the Foreman Gators rolled to a 50‑0 victory over the Mineral Springs Hornets, securing the Gazette’s Team of the Week accolade. The win marked the Gators’ first shutout since the 2020 season and improved their record to 3‑3 overall and 2‑1 in conference play.
Offensive fireworks
Quarterback Briley Shoals led a balanced attack, completing 18 of 26 passes for 282 yards and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Vicktron “TT” Moore was the top target, hauling in five receptions for 137 yards and two scores. The Hornets also contributed with four catches for 77 yards from Gunner Phillips, four catches for 38 yards and a touchdown from Hayden Easter, and touchdown receptions by Lawson Mears and Kaylon Easter.
Running back Jamarquis Jones added a strong ground game, carrying the ball twice for 70 yards and a touchdown. Kolt Chaviers chipped in with six carries for 34 yards and a score of his own.
Defensive dominance
The Gators’ defense was equally impressive, holding Mineral Springs—who had scored 30 or more points in three straight games—to zero points. Defensive back Aiden Forrest led the unit with five tackles and an interception. Jones also recorded five tackles, while Kaylon Easter added an interception and three tackles. Kane Davis contributed four tackles and two sacks, and Shoals added four tackles on defense.
Coach Spears on the team’s progress
Head coach Evan Spears praised the collective effort, noting the defense allowed fewer than 70 yards, a rarity for the program. “I was extremely proud of how our defense played this past week in front of a homecoming crowd. To allow less than 70 yards is a feat that does not happen often, and we are very pleased with how physical and fast we played defensively,” Spears said.
Spears also highlighted the team’s growing cohesion. “Our team is really starting to gel. There was a definite learning curve to begin the season with a new offense and new defense. The guys were having to think a lot, and it was slowing them down early. As a whole, the team isn’t having to think much anymore because we have gotten game‑speed reps, and it is starting to show up on Friday nights with our playmakers, which we have quite a few of. I couldn’t be more proud of the way the guys are coming together, playing tough, disciplined, united football,” he added.
Spears emphasized the depth of the roster, stating, “I couldn’t start a list without mentioning everyone, because it takes all 23 of us every week to be successful. Everyone plays a part.”
Looking ahead
With the shutout win boosting confidence, the Gators aim to maintain momentum as the season progresses. The next conference matchup will test whether the team can sustain its high‑powered offense and stifling defense.
