Major chain stores and restaurants are facing challenges and closures this year. Wendy’s, for example, is closing hundreds of restaurants as part of a plan that started in late 2025. Starbucks is also closing hundreds of locations strategically, a move that began in 2025 and continued into 2026.
Chains Facing Closures
Value City Furniture announced it would begin a liquidation sale at all locations, with every store expected to close by the end of 2026. Saks Global filed for bankruptcy in January and plans to close nearly 65 stores. Allbirds is taking a unique approach by closing all of its full-price stores to concentrate on its e-commerce business.
