Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas seized over $3.7 million worth of cocaine in a shipment of cucumbers last Wednesday.
Cocaine Disguised as Produce
Agents discovered 112 packages of cocaine, totaling 278.88 pounds, after a canine inspection and a nonintrusive imaging system scan revealed anomalies in the vehicle. The seizure highlights the ongoing challenge of smuggling along the U.S. border.
According to Port Director Carols Rodriguez, the interception is a reminder that CBP officers are working to detect and deter those who attempt to exploit the borders. Since the end of 2024, border crossings have decreased significantly, but CBP has reported several high-profile smuggling attempts, including a truckload of ‘roses’ concealing over 515 pounds of cocaine and a commercial truck allegedly carrying carrots with 298 pounds of cocaine.
