The Cook County Forest Preserves offer camping options for individuals and families, providing opportunities for kayaking, stargazing, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, birdwatching, and an indoor climbing wall.
Camping Options
The forest preserves have five campgrounds: Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs, Dan Beard in Northbrook, Camp Reinberg in Palatine, Shabbona Woods in South Holland, and Camp Sullivan in Tinley Park. These campgrounds offer almost 100 tent sites and over 30 cabins, with prices ranging from $24 to $40 per night for tent sites and $46 to $135 for cabins.
The forest preserves aim to make camping accessible to everyone, offering a free Camping 101 course, an overnight Camping Leadership Immersion Course, and gear rentals. The campgrounds also have ADA-accessible RV and tent sites, ADA-accessible cabins, and cabins with heat and air-conditioning.
Conservation Efforts
The forest preserves’ mission is to protect Cook County’s natural lands, which is essential for stormwater retention and removing pollutants from the air. By allowing people to engage with nature, the forest preserves hope to instill a sense of appreciation and care for the environment.
