The Caddo Parish Commission is moving toward tighter restrictions on industrial noise following a heated debate during a Special Projects Committee meeting. The proposed update to the parish noise ordinance seeks to lower permissible noise thresholds from 50 decibels to 45 decibels. This change would align Caddo Parish standards with those currently in place in neighboring Bossier Parish.
Protecting the Community
Commissioner John Paul Young, the sponsor of the measure, argued that the change is essential for protecting the community. “It’s designed to protect the people of Caddo Parish such that their quality of life will not be sacrificed for large-scale businesses that make a lot of noise,” Young said.
The committee unanimously approved a motion to request additional data from Bossier Parish and an update from sound consultants before making a final decision. The commission is scheduled to revisit the noise ordinance at its next meeting.
