Brazos County to Deliberate $22 Million Hospital Reimbursement Proposal

The Brazos County Commissioners Court is set to deliberate on a significant financial proposal that could see up to $22 million allocated for hospital reimbursements. This funding is part of a program facilitated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) aimed at increasing Medicaid payments to hospitals serving Medicaid enrollees, including adults and children in the STAR, STAR+PLUS, and STAR Kids programs.

The proposal, if approved, will cover the first half of the Fiscal Year 2026-27. The Commissioners Court must submit their decision by June 12. This initiative underscores the importance of supporting local healthcare providers who serve vulnerable populations in the community.

Other Agenda Items

In addition to the hospital reimbursement proposal, the Commissioners Court will address several other matters. A contract with Mesquite Properties Joint Venture is up for approval, involving the purchase of commercial property for $2.4 million. The intended use of this land remains unspecified at this time.

Furthermore, a budget amendment is proposed to allocate $40,000 for jail correctional medicine, ensuring funds are appropriately directed to cover inmate healthcare costs for the remainder of FY 2026.

The court will also review two management contracts related to project and contract management software, totaling just under $200,000. These contracts aim to enhance the efficiency and oversight of county projects.

Additionally, several road projects are on the agenda, including improvements to Pleasant Hill Road, W. 28th Street, Walter Banks Road, Houston Road, Higgs Drive, Lake Drive, Linda Lane, and Charlotte Lane. These projects involve various right-of-way adjustments and crossings, reflecting ongoing infrastructure development in the county.

The Commissioners Court meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Brazos County Administration Building, located at 200 S. Texas Ave., Bryan.
