New Braunfels welcomed a new gathering spot on Oct. 13 when Braunfelser Beer & Wine Garden opened its doors at 499 S. Castell Ave. Owner Seth Weatherly, who also runs Five Stones Artisan Brewery, transformed the former Faust Brewing Company site—closed in 2025 after 16 years—into a three‑zone venue designed to serve as the downtown community’s “backyard.”
German‑Inspired Roots
In 2019 Weatherly and his team introduced a German‑inspired series of beers under the name “Braunfelser,” a tribute to the city’s heritage. Taylor Kroeger, a spokesperson for the new garden, explained that the name is “a love letter to our community.” The brew lineup reflects that homage, featuring classic German styles such as hefeweizen, dunkel, and bock, alongside local craft selections.
Three Distinct Spaces
The venue is organized into three separate areas. The first is a welcoming entry where guests can learn about the business, purchase snacks, and pick up merchandise. The second is the main beer garden, a spacious outdoor setting equipped for families and friends to gather, enjoy drinks, and partake in yard games and live music. The third space, called the Braunfelser Capsule, is a 26‑seat “time capsule” that showcases vintage beer signs, leather bar chairs, and other nostalgic décor, offering a nod to the city’s brewing past.
A Place for Community Connection
“We want the New Braunfels locals to feel at home; we want the tourists to be welcomed, and we want to be a space where connections are made and memories are shared,” Kroeger said. The garden’s design encourages lingering, slowing down, and savoring life over a good pint with good company. Live music performances and seasonal events are planned to further embed the garden into the cultural fabric of the city.
Family‑Friendly Atmosphere
Beyond the beer selection, Braunfelser emphasizes a family‑friendly environment. The garden provides ample seating, shaded areas, and activities suitable for children, ensuring that parents can enjoy a relaxed outing without sacrificing safety or comfort. The inclusion of yard games such as cornhole and giant Jenga adds a playful element that appeals to all ages.
Supporting Local Economy
By repurposing the former Faust Brewing Company location, Braunfelser contributes to the revitalization of downtown New Braunfels. The opening creates new jobs, supports local suppliers, and adds another destination for both residents and visitors seeking a taste of German‑style brewing in a welcoming setting.
Looking Ahead
Weatherly and his team plan to rotate seasonal brews, host community events, and collaborate with other local businesses. Their goal is to make Braunfelser Beer & Wine Garden a lasting fixture that reflects the city’s heritage while fostering new traditions for future generations.
