After eight years of serving Texas beers, wines, and a stage for local talent, Three Legged Goat announced it will close permanently. The bar and music venue, located in Pflugerville, ceased operations in late October following an inability to secure a lease renewal.
Owner reflects on the venue’s community impact
Jim McDonald, a former Pflugerville City Council member and the owner of Three Legged Goat, said the decision was driven solely by the lease issue. \”I was proud that we were able to open our doors and our stage to so many in this community, including multiple nonprofits, veteran groups, political events and other community organizations, and especially to local artists, up‑and‑coming musicians and young musicians who were just starting out and needed a place to play, to learn and to be welcomed,\” McDonald told the press.
A hub for veterans, nonprofits and local politics
Since its opening in November 2018, the venue has become more than a place to grab a drink. It hosted fundraising events for veteran charities, provided a gathering space for local nonprofit groups, and even served as a venue for political town halls and community meetings. Residents often cited the bar’s welcoming atmosphere as a rare space where families, faith‑based groups, and civic organizations could come together.
Lease renewal challenges force closure
McDonald explained that the landlord’s decision not to renew the lease left the business with no viable alternative location that could accommodate the venue’s stage and bar setup. \”We explored every option, but the terms offered would have jeopardized the financial stability of the business and, more importantly, the ability to keep the stage open for our artists,\” he said.
Call to support local businesses
In his statement, McDonald urged Pflugerville residents to continue supporting local enterprises. \”Our community thrives when we shop local, attend local events, and lift each other up. I encourage everyone to keep showing up for the businesses that make Pflugerville unique,\” he added.
What’s next for the space?
The future of the property remains uncertain. While the building will likely be re‑leased, no new tenant has been announced at the time of writing. Community members hope the space will once again become a gathering place for local events, but the loss of Three Legged Goat is already being felt across the city’s cultural scene.
Remembering the legacy
Fans and musicians have taken to social media to share memories of performances, open‑mic nights, and charity events held at the venue. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunities the bar provided to launch their musical careers and for the sense of belonging it fostered.
Three Legged Goat’s closure underscores the challenges small, locally‑owned venues face in a rapidly changing commercial landscape. As Pflugerville continues to grow, the community’s response to this loss may shape how future cultural spaces are supported and preserved.
