Blue Origin’s launch pad will be rebuilt with a new configuration following damage caused by the explosion of its New Glenn rocket during a hotfire test last month.
Rebuilding and Investigation
The launch pad was heavily damaged in the May 28 explosion, and some hardware was destroyed in the incident. CEO Dave Limp stated that the company will not rebuild the launch pad as it once was, instead opting for a different configuration.
Limp added that the company will try a horizontal/vertical hybrid CONOPS, which they had already been developing for their 9×4 New Glenn launch vehicle, using existing infrastructure and skipping a new transporter-erector.
Blue Origin is committed to returning to flight by the end of this year, with Limp saying, ‘Our road to space doesn’t pause here. We will return to flight by the end of this year.’
