Blank Park Zoo is celebrating the birth of a baby Japanese macaque named Hiro, born earlier this month to Miya. He’s the 50th macaque born at Blank Park Zoo since 1985.
Species Survival Plan
Zookeepers said Hiro means generosity, abundance and prosperity. Blank Park Zoo leads the Japanese macaque Species Survival Plan for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to sustain the population.
Hiro joins a long list of new arrivals at the zoo, including Walnut the harbor seal, Victoria the addax, and Blanca the cotton-top tamarin.
Blank Park Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from September through May.
