Leslie Bender won her second Ladies District golf title at Big Spring Country Club, defeating Susan Stewart 1-up in the championship match.
Bender’s victory marked her second title in three years, with her previous win coming in 2024. Stewart, a 21-time champion and Kentucky Golf Hall of Famer, tied the legendary Louise Wilson with her twenty-first win in 2025.
Respect and Admiration
Both Bender and Stewart expressed their respect and admiration for each other, as well as for the late Louise Wilson, who passed away in June at the age of 96. Wilson was a mentor to both golfers and taught them the game of golf and its etiquette.
"Leslie is such a good player, and I was just thrilled to go 18 holes with her again," Stewart said. "You know I’m not getting any younger, she’s a lot younger than I am, and she’s a great player. So I’m thrilled to still be in it after all this time."
Bender also praised Stewart, saying, "This is a special tournament. You see the names on that plaque, and you want to be part of that. It’s just such a great, great group of women. So I think just being part of that history is great. And I love the competition, and I love all these ladies that I get to play with. So it’s fun. I look forward to it."
