Maryland Gov. Wes Moore addressed voter priorities, rising living costs, and military policy during an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union.
Everyday Concerns
When asked by host Jake Tapper about party ideology and recent comments from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez regarding progressive overreach, Moore said everyday voters focus more on kitchen-table expenses than political debates.
Moore recalled a conversation with a woman at a Delmarva Shorebirds baseball game who shared her struggles with rising gas prices while living on disability.
Affordability and Accountability
Moore highlighted Maryland’s state-level initiatives as examples of cost-control measures, including the state’s Utility Relief Act and Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB).
Our states really are becoming these laboratories of saying that affordability, accessibility should not have to be mutually exclusive goals, and there has to be accountability for our executives as well, Moore said.
Military Readiness
The conversation concluded with military readiness and troop conditions following reports that 200 family members of crew aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln raised concerns regarding mental health and safety during deployment.
Moore, an Army veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, criticized the federal response to those reports.
