After a seven-year wait, the Bayview neighborhood in San Francisco is finally getting a new pharmacy. The D10 Community Pharmacy is set to open at 5668 Third St., the former location of What’s the Scoop ice cream parlor.
Community Efforts
The new pharmacy is the result of efforts by Bayview Senior Services’ Cathy Davis and Geoffrea Morris, who also led the creation of the D10 Community Market, a free grocery store for low-income residents. Supervisor Shamann Walton expressed his excitement about the new pharmacy, stating that it will be a major addition to the community.
The lack of a local pharmacy has been a significant issue for Bayview residents, particularly the elderly and those with limited mobility. Dontaye Ball, president of the Bayview Merchants Association, shared the story of an elderly neighbor who had to rely on a courier for her life-saving medication after the previous Walgreens closed.
The new pharmacy is expected to bring much-needed access to healthcare and medication for the community. The opening of the D10 Community Pharmacy is a win for the community, and it is hoped that this model can be replicated in other parts of the city that lack basic services.
