Bastrop Celebrates Fifth Year of Pride with Community Events

Bastrop, Texas, is gearing up to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Bastrop Pride with a variety of community-focused events throughout June. These events aim to bring together residents and visitors in a spirit of inclusivity and local engagement.

Pride Street Fair

The highlight of the celebrations is the Pride Street Fair, set to take place on June 5 from 5 to 10 p.m. at 1028 Main St., in front of Calvary Church. This free event will feature vendors, a kids zone, live entertainment, and community programming, offering something for everyone.

In conjunction with the street fair, Bridges Emporium will host its own Pride celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. at 920 Main St. Attendees can participate in activities such as designing sashes, collecting buttons featuring historical figures, and enjoying an in-store catwalk. The event will also include an affirmation tree, ally chalk mural, and local art shopping, with refreshments provided.

Outdoor Activities and More

For those who enjoy the outdoors, Bastrop Pride is organizing a morning hike at the Colorado River Refuge on June 13 from 8 to 10 a.m. Participants of all fitness levels are welcome, and are encouraged to bring water, comfortable shoes, and a spirit of pride.

Music enthusiasts can join the “Queerokie” karaoke night at Awaken Bastrop on June 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. This event invites singers and supporters to enjoy a night of music and community at 1003 Jefferson St.

Bike Ride and Silent Auction

To conclude the month-long celebrations, a community bike ride will take place on June 27, starting at Mike’s Bikes, located at 400 Farm St. B. The meetup begins at 9:30 a.m., with the ride commencing at 10 a.m. Bike rentals are available for $15 per hour, and reservations can be made by calling 737-881-5867.

Additionally, Bastrop Pride’s online silent auction is currently live, with proceeds supporting LGBTQIA+ programming and community care across Bastrop County. Items can be viewed and bid on at www.bastroppride.org, with pickups available at the Pride Street Fair on June 5.
