A Bardstown family is facing the difficult task of rebuilding after investigators say a lightning strike likely sparked a fire that severely damaged their home while they were away on vacation.
Firefighting Efforts
The fire broke out early Saturday morning at a home on Marks Lane. By the time firefighters arrived, flames were already coming through the roof. Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the scene and spent nearly six hours battling the blaze.
During the firefighting effort, crews were able to remove two vehicles from the home’s attached garage before part of the roof collapsed. Neighbor Nick Cravens said the destruction was heartbreaking to witness.
Despite the extensive damage, the Bardstown fire chief said the home can be repaired rather than demolished, although the roof will need to be rebuilt. No one was injured in the fire because the homeowners were away on vacation when it happened.
