An ax-wielding man who vandalized a smoke shop in Fullerton barricaded himself in the business after, leading to an hours-long standoff, according to police.
The standoff began after the man entered the Rodeo Smokeshop on Orangethorpe Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday. While there, the man was armed with an ax and began to vandalize the business, the Fullerton Police Department said.
The store’s clerk was able to flee from the business safely and the man barricaded himself inside. The standoff led to the closure of Harbor Boulevard as a SWAT team continues to try to negotiate a peaceful surrender with the man.
Law enforcement has not released the name of the man.
