The Austin metro area is seeing several transportation updates, including road widening and bridge construction projects. One such project is the widening of Gattis School Road in Round Rock, which will expand the four-lane road to a six-lane road between Double Creek Drive and Via Sonoma Trail.
Upcoming Projects
The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and Texas Department of Transportation are studying the feasibility of extending tolled main lanes alongside existing non-tolled lanes, adding signalized intersections, and enhancing pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure along a 15-mile stretch of US 290 in Bastrop County.
Austin will commit more than $100 million to support future public amenity decks covering portions of I-35, after a scaled-down alternate proposal was tabled this spring. The city would develop larger caps and smaller stitches to cover the interstate, connecting downtown and East Austin with public decks that could house parks, plazas, and small buildings or venues.
Ongoing Projects
Construction is underway on the 183A Toll frontage roads, which will add two 3-mile lanes on either side of 183A Toll from East Whitestone Boulevard to Avery Ranch Boulevard, as well as a shared-use path connecting the existing US 183 trailhead.
The southbound Austin Avenue bridge decks will be demolished beginning this month in preparation for new bridge construction, according to a May 29 city update. The bridge demolition will take approximately two months.
