Atlanta Women’s Foundation invests $1.5 M in local nonprofits supporting women and girls

Atlanta – The Atlanta Women’s Foundation (AWF) unveiled a $1.5 million investment package aimed at strengthening programs that serve women and girls throughout the metro region. The funding, announced at the foundation’s annual Community Investment Celebration held at City Hall on Sept. 10, will be distributed in grants ranging from $25,000 to $75,000.

Targeted focus areas

AWF used commissioned research, community data and conversations with partner agencies to pinpoint barriers facing women and girls. The grants will support initiatives in early‑childhood education, family stability, mental‑health services, leadership development and girls’ empowerment.

Key partners and programs

Through its Two‑Generation Initiative, in partnership with the Liz Blake Giving Fund, four organizations – Atlanta Children’s Day Shelter, Families First, Our House and Quality Care for Children – will receive funding to address housing stability, workforce development, childcare access, parenting education, mental‑health care and early‑childhood development.

The All Girls Forward: Girls Empowerment Program will continue its fourth year of support for ten nonprofit partners, including Agape Youth & Family Center, Cool Girls, Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta, Girls on the Run Georgia, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Global Village Project, Los Niños Primero, Ser Familia, VOX ATL and Families First.

AWF’s Health and Wellbeing Initiative adds seven new partners focused on mental‑health and overall wellbeing: Center for Black Women’s Wellness, Mosaic Health Center, Our House, @Promise Center, The Drake House, Urban Clinic of Atlanta and Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence.

Leadership remarks

CEO Kari B. Love emphasized the broader impact of the investments: “When women can succeed, families become more stable. When girls are empowered, communities grow stronger.” Mayor Andre Dickens echoed the sentiment, noting that issues affecting women affect the entire city and require collective solutions.

Recognition of individual achievement

The ceremony also honored Clayton State University nursing student Pue Meh with the $5,000 Yashoda Reddy Education Award. Meh, a refugee from Burma who arrived in the United States in 2009, balances motherhood, work as a certified nursing assistant at Northside Hospital and her studies.

The award, created by Dr. Sujatha Reddy and Rohith Reddy in memory of their mother, celebrates perseverance and the transformative power of education.

Community impact

Board chair Tish Harrison summed up the foundation’s vision: “Creating a stronger Atlanta means creating greater opportunity for women and girls, and that takes all of us.” The announced grants reflect donor generosity, nonprofit leadership and a community committed to uplifting women and girls.

AWF’s continued investment signals a long‑term commitment to building a more stable, healthy and prosperous Atlanta for families and future generations.
